Macabre…ish Horror: Deadly Games Movie List

 


  • Chain Letter - Teens are suddenly getting chain letters through text messages and email and if they do not pass them on to 5 people then they will suffer a gruesome death.

 

  • Choose or Die - There’s a mysterious 1980s game called Curs>r that offers a prize of $125,000. There’s a number you call and a recorded message gives the caller a code. But this is not just any game, this game messes with reality and drags other people into the game play. And if you die in the game, if anyone does, they die in real life. And winning the game hardly seems like winning at all. Just a different kind of nightmare.


  • The Circle - Fifty people are trapped in a room, all standing on a circular light. Including a child and a pregnant woman. If they move or touch someone else, they die. They soon find out they can vote on who dies next. And someone does, every two minutes.


  • Cube - Seven strangers wake up with no memory inside a giant cube maze. With no idea what’s going on they use their unique skills and what memory they have to navigate the maze. There are deadly traps and other people, some corpses in the maze. And some of these people are dangerous. The only thing to do is survived and hopefully find a way out.

 

  • Dead Body - During a graduation party nine friends play a murder mystery game called Dead Body. Someone plays dead and the rest have to figure out who killed them. There’s just one problem, someone is actually killing people and they really do need to figure out who it is.


  • Dead Tone - It all starts during a sleepover, the kids make a prank call and they have to keep the person on the line for 75 seconds. Except the caller figures out where they are, hunt them down and slaughter all their parents. Fast forward to many of those kids in college, at a party, once again they play that game and once again the pranked finds the house and they spend the evening trying to survive and discovering long held secrets.


  • Die - Six strangers, all on their own path to destruction, wake up in a facility. A mysterious man arrives with dice and the captives must roll for their lives. They all have a chance at a new life but they have to roll for it.


  • Escape Room - Six strangers, all with something in common, are invited to participate in an escape room, the invitation is a puzzle box and the prize is $10,000z Once they’ve arrived, the game has begun but they don’t know it until the room gets hot. This is a deadly game and who ever’s left alive wins. But also, the house always wins.


  • Escape Room 2 - Zooey and Ben, still traumatized by the escape room, are tricked into another one. And this time, all the players have already survived previous escape rooms. And the game has gotten much harder and much more dangerous.


  • Exam - Eight candidates have arrived to interview and compete for a prestigious job, of which there is only one offer. It is a timed interview, 80 minutes and they have one question to answer and a sheet of paper. The rules are to not spoil the paper or leave the room. There are no other rules. It’s not long before the candidates are threatening each other with violence and tearing up the room.


  • Fermat’s Room - Four mathematicians are invited to a remote location and locked in a room that looks like a library by their host, Fermat. The game consists of progressively harder numerical puzzles, the answers uncover the connection they have to each other and their reason for their imprisonment. By the way, the room gets smaller with each incorrect answer. If they answer too many questions incorrectly, they will be crushed and entombed here forever.


  • The Furies - A bunch of women are abducted and dropped off in a remote Australian forest. They are forced to run for their lives onces they realize various masked men are hunting them. One other thing, something has been implanted in their eyes and every time a woman is killed, a corresponding masked man explodes. There is a way to survive but it’s going to be painful.


  • Game of Death - Seven friends rent a house and inside is a mysterious board game that starts, on it’s own, after pricking their fingers. They learn they have no choice but to play when one of their friend’s heads explode. The game tells them they have to kill a certain number of people each or the same fate awaits them.


  • House of 9 - Nine strangers are abducted and trapped in a house. Over the loud speaker a mysterious male voice informs them that they will be playing a game, that the prize is $5 million and that only one of them will be leaving the house.


  • The House on Haunted Hill - Five strangers receive mysterious invitations from a tycoon. The offer is for them to spend 1 night in a haunted asylum and whoever makes it the entire night gets $1 million. One thing though, the scares were supposed to be manufactured but it’s actually haunted and they are actually in danger.


  • Hunger (2009) - 5 strangers wake up in an underground cavern with no food and a note saying that the human body can only survive 30 days with no food. There is water and cameras, lights and a clock on the wall. They are being watched and they believe they will be released in 30 days if they can just survive. As time goes on some of them become violent and talks of cannibalism begin. They also dig through a wall and discover human bones. They are not the first and this could mean, they will also not be leaving. And the watcher, he has something to prove.


  • Intacto - In an underground world of gambling luck is a tangible thing that can be gambled, stolen and captured. Tomas is recruited by the best in the game after he survives a plane crash. Amongst this group of gamblers are people who can steal luck with a touch. All the games are deadly and the wager is your luck.


  • The Killing Room - Strangers showed up to what they were told was a paid research study. What they actually signed up for is a government experiment testing the limits of morality and endurance. The subjects are forced into increasingly brutal mental and physical trials in order to measure their limits.


  • Knucklebones - A group of friends find a hidden game in an abandoned factory. The pieces are actual human knuckle bones and playing the game means summoning a creature who enters the world, fully grown, tearing his way through a person. And once he’s here, everyone is in danger and the only way to send him back is to roll the bones just right and that is the only way to stop him. One more thing, the only way to replace lost game pieces is to get new human knuckle bones.


  • Nine Dead - Nine strangers are abducted and chained in an industrial building. A masked man comes in to tell them that they all have something in common and they have to figure it out if they want to live. Ten minutes. That’s all they have before one of them dies. And then the clock starts again. As they talk they spill some of their biggest secrets that contributed to one death. Someone desperately wants to live but always wants to keep their secret. That may cost everyone their lives.


  • Open Graves (2009) - A group of surfers find and play an ancient game called Mamba. Named after a witch who was punished and skinned alive, her skin and organs were used to make this game. If you begin, you play until you lose or win. If you lose, you will die in the gruesome way game predicted and if you win, you get a wish.


  • Paintball - There’s an international paintball tournament and people are coming from all over to play by invitation. They suit up and use the ammo boxes scattered around the woods. It’s not long before they realize their ammo is real, there are deadly traps everywhere and they are being hunted by a psycho who is not just trying to kill them but brutalize them to death. They are also being watched. Not they have to find their way, not just out of the woods but out of an unfamiliar country.

 

  • Stay Alive - Friends get their hands on a mysterious video game based on the legend of the mysterious Blood Countess. They realize at some point, the game cannot be paused and keeps playing without you and if you die in the game, you die in real life, the same way you died in the game. The game also starts bleeding over into real life in terrifying ways. They don’t know how to stop the game so they have to find the origin of it in real life. And hopefully before they all die.


  • Truth or Dare (2012) - A group of people are lured to an estate under the guise of a party, only to be corned by a man who lost his brother to suicide. His brother is a guy they used to hang out with and tease. And now the brother wants answers and it’s gonna be brutal. Some of the guests won’t survive the questions but I’m not sure anyone was meant to survive this game.


  • Truth or Dare (2017) - A group of friends play Truth or Dare in a haunted house and the spirit within takes over the game. They have to ask increasingly revealing questions that reveal their darkest secrets and perform increasingly more dangerous dares to survive.

 

  • Truth or Dare [Dead] (2018) - A cursed game of Truth or Dare was initiated by a mysterious stranger in Mexico. They are forced to reveal dark secrets and forced to do dangerous dares and if they refuse, they die. They can stop this game but they have to return to Mexico to the place it began.


  • Would You Rather - A group of desperate people are invited to, then trapped there to play a dangerous and deadly version of Would You rather. Instead of just one nig prize to the winner at the end, there are intermittent cash prizes to induce a person, for instance, to reverse a moral or personal stance like getting a vegan to eat meat. No leaves unless they win and there’s no way to not play. The only way out is death or the win.
