Macabre...ish Horror Review: Killer Klowns from Outer Space

 

 

Killer Klowns from Outer Space, 1988/ 88 mins.

A glowing object falls from the sky just outside of Crescent Cove and some couples from lover’s lane spot it, as well as a farmer, Gene Green (Royal Dano), who believes it’s Haley’s Comet and goes looking for the impact site. What he finds instead is a Circus Tent!

 

 

He and his dog are quickly captured by grotesque, alien Klowns. Soon, Mike Tobacco (Grant Cramer) and Debbie Stone (Suzanne Snyder) arrive after seeing it fall from lover’s lane. They enter the Tent and discover bizarrely colorful, futuristic rooms and elevator with giant spools of cotton candy and upon inspection discover the farmer, congealed and encased inside. Suddenly they are being chased by Klowns, shooting at them with deadly popcorn guns and living, dog shaped balloons.

 

 

 

Debbie and Mike escape to the police station to report it but are dismissed as a hoax. After dropping Debbie off at home, Mike takes Dave to the tent but it’s vanished, the only thing let is a crater. Back at lover’s lane, the cars are abandoned and some are filled with cotton candy. And in town, the Klowns are having a deadly parade!

 

 

The town’s people are mesmerized by their arrival and are then captured after being shot by toy like ray guns,

 

 

that trap them inside of candy and giant toy balls. Klowns also preform deadly tricks and pranks that costs onlookers their lives. One trick, they use shadow puppets to shrink their audience small enough to fit in the palm of his hand and they are then put in a bag of popcorn. And what do they want with people? To eat then! Or rather drink them. With a straw. A crazy straw.

 

 

 

At the police station, they are flooded with calls from people about the Klowns. And Mooney (John Vernon) dismisses all of them as pranks. When a Klown arrives at the station, Mooney places it under arrest, believing it to be a teen. After the Klown is locked up it kills everyone and they’re discovered, later in candy cane cocoons, and Mooney’s corpse is used, by the Klown, as a ventriloquist’s dummy. The Klown is eventually destroyed after being shot in the nose by Officer Hansen. 

  

 

Debbie is kidnapped by the Klowns and Mike, ice cream truck friends and Officer Hansen follow them to an amusement park and new location of their tent. 

 

 

This movie is crazy, campy and at times gory! The alien Klowns are truly repulsive and there were many different kinds, which was great! And the effects were good and some times gross! I love this movie!
