Macabre...ish Horror Review: Reavers

Doing something a little different! I want to share my admiration for these monsters from a great series and movie!

Reavers (Serenity & Firefly)

It’s the 26th century and humans have left the overpopulated Earth and populated planets in another solar system. The central planets are part of the Alliance, the outer planets are known as Independents. Anyone not apart of the Alliance is an outlaw and assumed enemy.

A certain ship, a Firefly called Serenity and captained by Mal, with his first mate, Zoe (who also fought with him against the Alliance), Wash, the pilot and Zoe’s husband, Mercenary/Security, Jayne and the ship mechanic Kaylee. This ship is in the Alliance sights because it carries a priceless stowaway, a girl named River. And the Alliance will not stop hunting them until they have her back.

There are also people known as Reavers. They are savage, barbaric and insane cannibals. They mutilate their bodies for decoration. When they come in contact with regular people, it is for combat, there are rarely survivors and those that do survivor become Reavers.

Zoe describes what they do to victims - “If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing – and if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order."

They do fly ships, you know them because they’re smokers that fly full throttle. They are decorated with blood and corpses are chained to the hull.

The Alliance insist their existence is a myth but those who fly fireflies know better. There’s a terrible secret that hides the truth of Reavers and the Alliance needs to keep it under cover. But the truth lies on a planet called Miranda.

Firefly and Serenity are series and a movie created by Joss Whedon. Kind of a scifi western with a great story, concept and killer cast of characters. I enjoyed everything about it except the untimely end of the series and the sad end to Serenity. The Reavers are excellent monsters and formidable opponents!!

I have no idea if either are streaming anywhere but Serenity is here and Firefly here. Enjoy!!
