Macabre...ish Horror Review: Rob Zombie’s Halloween
Halloween, 2007/ 2 hr 1 min.
Ten year old Michael Myers (Daeg Faerch), taped his mother’s abusive boyfriend to a lazy boy and slit his throat and stabbed him repeatedly. Beat his sister’s boyfriend to death with a bat and stabbed her to death as she tried to escape. All on Halloween, after killing a couple school bullies. The only person he let alive in the house was his baby sister.
Michael was then sent to a psychiatric hospital after his mother (Shari Moon Zombie) returned home and found him, in costume, covered in blood. After one of the longest trials in history, he was found guilty and sentenced to a sanitarium, under the care of Dr. Loomis (Malcolm McDowall).
He eventually withdraws completely, after breaking down because they won’t let him go home and fixates on masks. He kills a nurse with a fork and his mother, unable to cope, commits suicide. Fifteen years later, Dr. Loomis retires and Michael (Tyler Mane) still hasn’t spoken and after killing nurse and guards, he kills his way back to his old home in Haddonfield, Il in search of his baby sister. Who has been adopted by the Strodes.
After being alerted that Michael’s escaped, Dr. Loomis heads to Haddonfield. He’s going to try to stop Michael from killing Laurie.
Also in this movie are some great names in horror...Danny Trejo, Ken Foree, Brad Douriff, Bill Moseley, Dee Wallace, Daniel Harris, Udo Kier, Richard Lynch and Sid Haig. Just to name a few.
The cinematography, the score, the story and progression were just phenomenal! I really enjoyed this movie.
