Macabre...ish Horror Review: Scream

Scream, 96/ 111 min.

A small town is in the grip of fear as a serial killer is on the loose and most of the victims are teens. It begins with a flirtatious phone call that soon becomes menacing as the caller demands to play a game and asks,”What’s your favorite scary movie?” If the caller is blown off and not taken seriously, he escalates, calling repeatedly, ringing the doorbell, revealing that he’s watching and demanding an answer to his question.

The first victims are Casey Becker (Drew Barrymore) and her boyfriend Steve. She’s home alone and is menaced by the caller, demanding answers to horror movie questions. And when she gets a question wrong, her boyfriend, Steve, who's been kidnapped and tied up on her patio, is gutted. When she refuses to play anymore and tries to get help, she's chased down, gutted and hung from a tree, just as her parents return home.

Afterward, the news descends upon the town and another teen, Sydney (Neve Campbell), is coping wit the anniversary of her mother's murder. She soon gets her own menacing call and visit from a knife wielding person dressed as ghost face but the culprit vanishes as her boyfriend, Billy (Skeet Ulrich), arrives. He's later arrested as the culprit and released as the focus shifts to her father who has disappeared.

As the town adopts a curphew, ghost face kills the high school principal (Henry Winkler) and students have a house party that quickly spirals out of control as a Sidney's friend, Tatum (Rose McGowan), is killed with a garage door and friends,

Good movie! Fun with a good pacing and effects. Lots of recognizable faces in this one and directed by Wes Craven. Also, the voice on the phone is perfect (rogerljackson)!
