Macabre...ish Horror Review: Slipstream
Part of the Deadly Beyond Series, Slipstream, 1989/ 102 min. From The Deadly Beyond 11 movie collection. With Mark Hamill, Bill Paxton, Ben Kingsley, F. Murray Abraham and Robbie Coltrane. Sci-fi adventure. It’s the future and Earth has suffered an environmental catastrophe and a fugitive that rides the Slipstream as a form of escape and cover. The Slipstream is a wind tide that wipes the earth, in it’s path, clean.
Both a bounty hunter, Matt Owens and law man, Will Tasker, hunt a fugitive murderer, for a reward.
Owens (Paxton) steals the fugitive, Byron, from Tasker (Hamill) and takes off in an
ultra light, after he’s shot with the lawman’s poison dart. But time is ticking to get the antidote and reward before he expires.
There’s something strange and mysterious about Byron, he returned a blind boy’s sight and he never tries to escape once he’s captured. Turns out he’s an Android and interestingly enough, he describes his prior relationship with his Master in exactly the same way as David describes his relationship with Weyland in Alien Covenant/Prometheus.
Lots of recognizable faces, including a young Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane). This movie has the feel of The Beastmaster. Also, this movie has a nice soundtrack! This movie gets odd but only in the way 80s movies get weird. Not scary in the least but good. I liked this movie!
