Macabre...ish Horror Review: Southbound

Southbound, 2015/ 1 hr 29 min

Two men are running from something and they keep trying to get away but no matter how hard they try, they just end up at the same gas station. Finally, one of them gives up, he’s done running. Then he’s led to a motel that is not what it seems.

Then three women in a jazz band, check out if the same motel and head down the road. They soon get a flat but a couple stops and gives them a ride. As expected, something is wrong with this couple and the guests they invite for dinner. The women who eat the meat vomit black blood and are acting strange plus they suddenly don’t want to leave. And the one that does, meets the next person in the series.

He calls 911 for help and he’s told to bring her to the nearest town but there’s something up with the call. He finds a hospital but it seems abandoned. The operator and someone identifying himself as a surgeon, walk him through an ill fated surgery. Then they began to laugh.

Then one of the people on the phone, hangs up a pay phone outside of a bar. Soon a man with a gun comes in and he’s looking for his daughter. But people in this bar are different. Then he demands a bartender take him to his daughter but he’s in danger, this stretch of road is evil.

There are more tales but you get the concept.

This anthology was a great surprise! I’ve never seen one quite like this. It is graphic and gory plus the concept is really good and well thought out. Well done!
