Macabre...ish Horror Review: The Cloverfield Paradox

The Cloverfield Paradox, 2018/ 102 min

Ava Hamilton (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) a British Engineer is struggling with the decision to leave her husband after losing their children in a fire, to join a mission that could save the people of Earth.

It is 2028 and there is an energy crisis on Earth, the space agencies want to test a particle accelerator and if it works could provide an infinite amount of energy. But it could also take years plus conspiracy theorists believe that this attempt could create a paradox, named for the orbiting space station called Cloverfield. The fear is the Cloverfield Paradox could create parallel universes with monsters that could threaten Earth.

After 2 years of failing, they finally create a beam that over heats and then they lose the Earth and part of their navigation equipment is missing. Then weird stuff starts happening, that begins with the rescue of a woman, Mina...from the space station’s wall, it is as if she materialized their, some of the station’s electrical system passes through her body and she know’s their names.

A series of other insane events cause the crew to believe that they have caused the Paradox, chaos ensues with multiverses and their particles, try to exist in the same space. Meanwhile, on their Earth, something bad is happening and it’s falling from the sky.

And what was feared comes to pass, Monsters on Earth and it’s destruction. Both Earths. Plus the people from each universe begins to battle for control of the station for the benefit of their own universe and planet, which are now, both under attack.

This was a good flick! The Cloverfield franchise can easily be a modern day, Alien equivalent. I was hooked the whole way through, even when I knew where it was headed, I was still surprised! Well done concept, effects, cinematography etc. Weird accidents and deaths, good physical effects and mostly Scifi suspense until the end. This is good!
