Macabre...ish Horror Review: The Puppet Master

The Puppet Master, 1989/ 80 min. Another beloved low budget movie! André Toulon, in his hotel room, spruces up his puppets one final time before secreting them in a hidden compartment in a wall. Just before some sketchy characters arrive to confront him, except he escapes through suicide first.

Years later, the anthropomorphic puppets, animated by an Egyptian spell, leave their hiding place when people return to the hotel investigating rumors of Toulon’s secrets. Lots of suspect characters, all psychics, metaphysicians and former colleagues of Toulon’s arrive and the puppets are restless, lurking the halls, are they protecting Toulon’s secrets even after his death?

The guests are injured and killed in one horrific fashion after another based on the unique qualities of each puppet: Blade, Decapitron, Jester, Pinhead, Torch and Leech Woman.  Oh but there’s a twist, who’s controlling the puppets now that Toulon is dead?

This movie is somewhat long winded and there are lots of dream sequences and visions, if you’re not paying attention it’s easy to get lost. I really look forward to the puppets kills because of it.

Still a good movie, very nostalgic.

Adult content, nudity, sexual assault, suicide, death by leeches..
