Macabre...ish Horror Review: Wrong Turn

WrongTurn! If you are a fan of ‘evil, inbred, cannibalistic, hillbillies’ then you have to see this movie.

I think I love this movie because you don’t see it coming, it’s unassuming, it’s a beautiful day, beautiful woods etc...I think that’s part of what makes this horror so palpable and the hope of survival so bleak. It lures you in but once the carnage begins, it just keeps going to the very end.

It’s a story about a doctor who wrecks his car (a vintage mustang, I cried a little) into the vehicle of a group of friends who were on a camping trip meant to cheer up a friend.

They all hit the road on foot in an attempt to find help, they find, instead a house of horrors.

One by one they’re picked off

by a family of grotesquely deformed people as they run through, what I can only assume is thousands of acres of land around the Appalachia’s.

I really like that these people fight and run, even the ladies, especially our main characters played by Eliza Dushku and Desmond Harrington. There’s not a lot of wimpy chick tripping and falling and all of her clothes flying off. This movie kinda feels real.

It’s graphic, bloody, gory and in some instances heartbreaking. This unassuming gem will take you through all of your emotions. Well, it did mine!
