Macabre…ish Review: Female Rage Movie List

On social media I made and kept adding to a list of female or feminine rage movies. Some horror, others not. I have decided to memorialize them here so that it is easier to keep track of and add to.

A Vigilante - Sadie barely survived domestic abuse at the hands of her, now missing, sadistic abusive husband. Who also killed her son. Now she trains in martial arts and works as a vigilante for other abuse victims to free women and children. But she still has unfinished business with her husband who is actively stalking her. And one day he finds and abducts her and he’ll wish he hadn’t.

American Mary - Mary quits medical school after being raped at a colleagues party and takes her part time gig, extreme body modification, full time. The past might be behind her but is it? (TW: Rape, Torture)

Arbor Demon - A couple go camping and are menaced by hunters and something else. Something mysterious that is also hunting the hunters. Dana will find that she’s not so different from the mysterious forest dwellers but her husband and the hunter that took shelter with them. They are definitely in danger. (Folk/Appalachia horror)

Assassination Nation - A small town is turned upside down when a hacker anonymously releases everyone’s private messages and secrets. Four girls, in particular, end up in a fight for their lives against the entire town.

Becky - After losing her mom, Becky, who’s wrestling with her anger, goes on a family vacation. Unfortunately, the vacation is over when the family is terrorized by violent nazis, escaped convicts who are looking for a key. And Becky uses her barely restrained rage to survive and hopefully, save the family.

Bedevilled - Hae-won’s childhood friend, Bok-nam is being abused by her husband, who is also abusing her child. And the other residents of the island, instead of helping her, chastise her and enable her abuser. Trapping her in the cycle of abuse. Hae-won is going to make them all pay. Big Driver - A woman, tricked into a web that includes a family secret, small town horror and a deadly trap. Not only does she survive the worst night of her life, a terrible family, doesn’t. (TW: Rape, Torture)

Bit - Laurel is new to LA and falls in with vampires after being bitten at a party. There’s one rule in Bit Club…Never turn a man because men can’t handle power. But you can hunt them and they do, the predators.

Blink Twice - A waitress finds herself invited to a billionaires island for a party with his friends and other women. But when the women start to lose time and have strange, horrifying dreams. The pieces start coming together and this time the party ends very differently than the last. (TW: Abuse, Rape)

The Burning Bed - Based on the true story of a battered wife who cannot escape her ex-husband, she’s on her own and she decides to end his reign of terror, once and for all.

Carrie - A traumatized girl who’s suffered constant bullying all through school, when her bullies are finally punished with a prom ban, they cook up a plan to terrorize Carrie harder. After this final humiliation, the telekinetic Carrie, has her revenge on them all.

The Clinic - Abducted pregnant women wake up in an abandoned meat processing plant, no longer pregnant. Their infants are all locked in a cage and numbered, the numbers coincide with the colored and numbered tags sewn inside each woman’s abdomen. And there’s only one way to find out which infant belongs to whom.

Colombiana - Cataleya saw her parents murdered when she was a child. After being granted asylum in the US, she asks her uncle who resides in Chicago, to teach her to kill. Once she becomes an adult, she returns home, an accomplished assassin. With every kill she leaves her signature, hoping to catch the attention of her parents’ murderer.

Curve - A deranged hitchhiker plays a deadly game with Mallory after she crashes her truck to save herself from him. If she doesn’t die first, she will have to kill him to survive. And it turns out, she’s not the only one embroiled in his game.

Daddy’s Girl - A young woman, who is missing, has replaced her departed mother in the void she left behind for her mother’s husband. Assuming all of the duties. Including in the bedroom and lure for the girls that he wants to capture for his lair. Every possible way out is the hard way, she just needs to pick one. (TW: Abuse, Rape, Suicide, Torture)

Dolores Claiborne - Dolores found out her long time husband has been sexually abusing their daughter. Now that she knows, she need to do something about it. (TW: Incest, child abuse)

Double Jeopardy - A woman goes to prison for the murder of her husband, even though his body was never found. And then one day it was and she’d served her time. Unfortunately for him, he is very much still alive. (TW: DV)

Down - On the evening before Valentines Day, Jennifer and Guy get stuck in the elevator at work. They talk, play games and flirt, which leads to a quickie and then Guy tried to escalate the situation but Jennifer is not interested. Guy immediately feels rejected and starts confessing to things like Guy isn’t really his name and he doesn’t really work in the building as an accountant and oh, he’s been stalking her and the elevator isn’t really stuck. This night is gonna get way worse before it gets better but ‘Guy’ was begging for it. (TW: stalking, intimidation)

Even Lambs Have Teeth - A sadistic family kidnaps, traffics and rapes two best friends. They escape but before they leave town, every single person they recognize is gonna pay.

Enough - A waitress married a wealthy contractor, who turns out to be a very abusive and controlling man. He beats her and freezes her accounts. She escapes with her child and no matter where she runs, he finds her. The one move that might work is going on the offensive. She’s gonna take the fight to him. (TW: DV, Stalking)

Everly - Everly is trapped in a Japanese sex trafficking ring run by Taiko. In an attempt to escape, she is leaking info to the cops. Unfortunately, Taiko knows and arranges for her torture and murder in one of the organizations apartments. But Everly is nothing if not prepared. She’s ready to fight the whole building, if she has too.

Exit Humanity - The American Civil War has broken out and so has something else and it has caused a zombie outbreak. It’s like a curse but there’s good news and bad news, the good news is someone is immune and it’s a woman. And the bad news is the curse is from a woman and the men deserve it. (TW: rape)

Extremities - Marjorie escapes a rape attempt by a masked man but he uses her ID to stalk and intimidate her and he has no intention of stopping. And since the police are no help, in order to save her roommates and herself, she will have to stop him.

Final Girl - Veronica is lured into the woods by 4 sadistic teenage boys, so they can hunt and kill her. But Veronica isn’t just any teenage girl, she likes to hunt too.

Freeway - A runaway encounters a sadistic serial killer and unfortunately for him, he severely underestimates her. Sure she’s an illiterate but lovable delinquent, she’s tough and safes herself. It turns out, she’s gonna be his down fall. (TW: child abuse, suicide)

Fresh - Noa goes on a romantic get away with a charming doctor named Steve. Unfortunately, this weekend getaway is a trap and Noa is not the first to get caught in it. Because Dr. Steve has a lot of secrets, one is that he belongs to a secret club and provides them with the finest cuts of human meat.

Frontier(s) - A group of young criminals take refuge in the worst possible place, an inn run by a family of Sadistic nazi cannibals. After all her friends are brutalized and killed, a terrified and pregnant Yasmine will have to fight her way out and escape on her own.

Furies - Kayla, and a bunch of other women are abducted and released into the Australian Outback. They are being hunted for sport by men in animal masks, it turns out, this is someone’s sick game. And if Kayla survives, she’s gonna find out who’s game this is.

Furies - Jacqueline recruits and trains Bi to be a part of the Wild Daisies, a vigilante group made up of women to protect women. They target dangerous human trafficking gangs and are unknowingly betrayed and are being used to take over other territories of other gangs. (TW: rape, sa| Vietnamese)

Girls Against Boys - Shae is having a bad few days, after the guy she was seeing dumps her and another assaults her. Her friend, Lu asks if she wants her “to kill’em for ya?” It turns out that Lu is not playing around and she’s not new to this. Shae may not be sure about this but Lu definitely is.

Gunpowder Milkshake - Sam’s an assassin and she’s hired to track down a man who stole money from The Firm but when she finds out it was to pay for the return of his 8 year old daughter, who has been kidnapped, Sam changes focus to make the the exchange and get the girl. Her boss is not pleased and sends henchman after her. He created a disaster and gives her up to be killed by another organization. She and some colleagues are gonna have to fight them all. Then Sam is going to see her boss, who hung her out to dry.

Hard Candy - 14 year old Hayley meets Jeff, a grown man that she’s been talking to online. It’s not long before he invites her home and finds out, she’s not just some innocent ingenue. In fact, she knows a whole lot about him and about the fact that he is a child predator. She’s looking for answers and she will get them. By the end, Jeff will be given a choice, life with all of his secrets laid bare or death.

Held - Jill and Henry were supposed to be spending some alone time together but the house they rented has been taken over. They are trapped inside and an unknown person is giving them orders over an intercom. If they do not comply, a terrible noise is blasted through the speakers, seemingly. It’s not long before Jill finds out, that her situation is even worse than she could have ever imagined. She will have to survive and do, a lot to get out of this place. (TW: rape, DV)

The Hunt - Crystal has been dumped in another country with a bunch of other people, all deemed deplorables. And they are being actively hunted and killed. Eventually she finds out that she’s not even in the US anymore but Eastern Europe. And they have the wrong Crystal, this one has a certain set of skills and they made a big mistake bringing her here.

Hunt Her, Kill Her - Domestic violence survivor, Karen, works as a night shift janitor at a large factory and she’s working on the night a gang of masked men slip into the building, locking them all in. One of those men is her ex-husband. The thing is, these men are used to hitting women but they’re not used to getting hit back and losing. (TW: Graphic, brutal violence)

I Am Rage - Women are kidnapped by a cult that harvests blood for the black market. One of these women, Erin. has a problem with rage and this family will have to fight for every drop of blood of they intend to get it from her.

I Spit On Your Grave - A writer, Jennifer. rents a cabin so that she can work in peace but a gang of thugs has other plans for her. After raping and torturing her and leaving her for dead, she decided it’s her turn. One by one these men will see her again and every single one of them will regret it.

Kate - Kate is an assassin and she has been poisoned. With the 24 hours she has left to live, she’s going to find out who her killer is. Along the way she befriends Ani, the niece of Kijima, who Kate initially kidnapped. And with a small army, Kate, takes on both sides at once.

Kill Bill - When a former assassin ended up in a four year coma after her wedding was crashed by her ex boss and his goons and turned it into a massacre, she vows to hunt them all down.

The Legend of Billie Jean - After her brother Binx was bullied and brutalized by Hubie and Billie Jean was sexually assaulted by Hubie’s dad, they go on the run and are haled as outlaws and folk heros after calling attention to Hubie’s families’ crimes against them and demanding justice.

The Long Kiss Goodnight - An amnesiac hit woman, Samantha (Charly Baltimore) recovers her memories, little by little with her new sidekick, private detective, Mitch. She discovers she is actually being hunted by her handlers. She’s going to have to kill them all if she’s going to survive.

Miss Meadows - A sweet unassuming school teacher moonlights as a vigilante and as the bodies of wrongdoers stack up, she starts to fall for the sheriff investigating the murders.

Ms. 45 - Thana was raped twice, once in the alley on her way home by a masked gunman and once, at home by a burglar. After disposing of the burglar’s body, she notices the amount of terrible men who are just loose in the world, terrorizing women. Including a fashion photographer, a pimp, gang members and business men so Thana decides to take care of them too. (TW: rape, graphic, gory)

The Odds - A desperate woman joins a secret game where she plays increasingly sadistic and painful games against other unseen players who are also being betted on by gamblers. The prize is a million dollars, if she wins. But her proctor (supervising official) is playing mind games, some times seeming to cheer her on, other times taunting her and interacting with her, outside of his duties. She becomes confused by what’s going on but by the end, she knows how to win this game.

P2 - Angela works let on Christmas Eve and all she wants is to make it to her party. Unfortunately, for her, there’s also a security guard in the building with an insane obsession with her. All he wants is for her to stay and have dinner with him, kill another coworker and then fall in love with him. But he has no plans to let her go so she’ll have to make him.

Peppermint - A woman wakes from a coma and her family has been killed by a gang. She can’t get justice with the corrupt justice system so she’s going to have to get it herself. She trains and then hunts those responsible down but she needs to get them before the cops catch her.

Pollen - Hera has been taped in her own home by her nightmare of a boss. And back at work, she’s treated like the annoying hanger on in a school cafeteria by everyone. Meanwhile, the boss acts like his conduct with her was a date and her reaction to it, is an overreaction. The trauma of this entire situation has her seeing things like a tree monster and throwing up flower petals. Things do not return to normal until she does something about her coworkers and boss. Prevenge - Pregnant widow, Ruth, goes on an epic killing spree of those who she holds responsible for her husbands death. There’s just one thing, she thinks she’s being guided by her fetus. (social commentary on motherhood, grief, and female agency)

Promising Young Woman - Cassie wants revenge for the things that have been allowed to happen to her. She had to drop out of medical school and her life was ruined. So she sets out to get it. She poses as drunk bait in bars to expose all the ‘nice guys’ and to expose a system that enables predators. Payback’s gonna hurt. (TW: rape, sa)

Ready or Not - Grace discovers, her wedding night, will be spent participating in her new eccentric, wealthy in-laws’ family tradition of hide and seek. And no, she does not have a choice and she’s the target. Also, the game includes real weapons and death. This family may have met their match in Grace.

Return to Sender - Miranda is brutally assaulted by a man she thought was her blind date. He goes to prison but that’s not enough, she needs more. It’s with prison letters and it’ll end when he’s a free man again and when she’s good and ready. (TW: rape)

See For Me - A blind woman, former Paralympic skier, Sophie, is cat sitting for a wealthy divorcée and later that night, people break in to try to pull off a heist. Sophie is found by them and she plays along to survive. Before the night is over, the thieves are gonna be fighting to survive Sophie.

She Never Died - Lacey is immortal and she needs to feed to live but she won’t choose just anyone, she needs the worst. So she hunts criminals. She also has her own mysterious inner demons but that’s gonna be a problem for the criminals to deal with (TW: Black trauma)

Silent Hill - Rose searches for her sleepwalking daughter, Sharon and ends up in a nightmarish town called Silent Hill. There an underground fire has been burning for decades. But the horrors of the town are connected to its dark history and the rape of a child named Alessa, her pregnancy and immolation. The pain, suffering and rage she endured tore her soul apart and created the conditions of Silent Hill and its population of monsters and what’s left of a cult.

Storm Warning - a couple seek refuge, at an old farm house on an island, after they have to abandon their boat during a storm. The people in that house turn out to be an inbred and violent family and the couple will have to fight for their lives to escape.

Sushi Girl - A party thrown by diamond thieves to welcome home a fellow thief from prison and finally get their diamonds turns into a deadly interrogation. Paranoia and rat soon take hold of the group and they start to kill each other. But there’s one more thing, there’s a woman there, nude on the table and covered in sushi, she has a secret. The outcome of this party might not have been by happenstance.
The Villainess - Sook-hee has been trained since she was a child to kill. She doesn’t want the life of assassin anymore and wants her freedom. But she uncovers some disturbing secrets from her past and now she just wants revenge.

Violation - Miriam is raped by her brother-in-law and later he denies is, her sister doesn’t believe her and her husband rejects her. So after making a scene, later in the evening she invites her brother-in-law out, under the guise of an encounter and she gets her revenge. Not just on him but the rest of the group too.

The Wrath of Becky - Becky has a new guardian, Elena and along with her dog they are attacked by a group of extremists and Elena is killed and her dog is stolen. Becky unleashes her rage on them and it’s gonna be a bloodbath.

You’re Killing Me - A high school girl, Eden, goes to a Heaven & Hell party thrown by the rich kids, in the hopes of getting a college recommendation letter. She learns pretty quickly that she’s in danger when she finds evidence that at least one other student has gone missing after hanging out with these people. This evidence cannot get out or their families will be destroyed. Eden and Zara are not going to just roll over and die.
