Macabre…ish Review: NFT Cursed Images

NFT: Cursed Images, 2026

There’s talk about cursed images going around online and somehow they’re impacting people in real life. And they seem to be connected to NFTs.

A London evening finds a group of friends (Sarah [Amelie Edwards], James [David Wayman], Nes [Nobuse Jnr], Dan [Durassie Kiangangu] and Kit [Patrick Shearer]) catching up and celebrating. The conversation segues into the generational rants instigated by Dan— the Millennials and their struggles, spoiled Gen Z and their supposed wealth from cryptocurrencies and a little Boomer wealth hoarding, sprinkled in.

The party, loses steam once a current ex but still friend group member, Cassie [Mariah Nonnemacher], arrives with Julia [Jasmine Clark]. Once they settle back in, they return to crypto talk, their successes and fails.

All except James are well in and now he’d like help minting his first NFT and trading others, so they make it happen. They teach him the ins and the outs.

Later, a stranger sends Kit seven NFTs from an unknown wallet, from a collection called Crypto Horrors. Sarah says she heard about these and that only 666 of them exist, strangers send them out but if you hold it for too long, you get cursed. It starts with hallucinations and ends with death, that’s the story online any way. Kit has decided to share the curse with his friends and send one to each of them. But he keeps one for himself.

And strange things start happening almost immediately. After the party as two of them walk home, they get weird text messages. Kit  gets some woken up by some sort of apparition. And it looks like his ‘cursed’ NFT.

On her walk home, Sarah gets weird texts from ‘Kit’ and immediately starts seeing things. Then something comes out of the dark and it looks like her NFT.

Meanwhile, Kit is not answering his phone for anyone else who’s calling him. Cass is on her way back to his place with James because she left her phone and they arrive to his empty flat. The door is open and there’s blood on the floor. Kit’s not there but something is. Cass wants to call the police but James thinks she’s overreacting.

Dan also gets some texts and after one good look at his terrifying NFT, he takes off running. Once home he calls Nes to warn him and Nes believes none of it. Dan explains that he’s been reading forums, watching videos and people have gone missing playing with these. That each of these NFTs are based on creatures who’ve lived throughout the ages in different cultures. They are the creatures of legends. Nes has researched the NFT art and he thinks he knows what Nes’ NFT is going to do.

Julie arrives to Nes’ place because she’s afraid she’s being followed but Nes doesn’t believe her either. But he does pick a weird paranoid fight with her and she leaves.

All of them see their NFTs that night and there is a way to stop them but not all of them will survive the night.

This was directed by Jonas Odenheimer and this was a very intriguing horror film that combines current technology and legend. And while this all takes place in one night, it makes for a terrifying evening. The art and makeup departments snapped, the monsters were scary and while many of the kills were bloody, this film is not particularly graphic or gory. It’s like East Asian horror dialed back. If you like horror but are not really a fan of graphic kills or gore porn, you might like this one. Prepare for jump scares though.

Go watch the movie. What are you still doing here!?!
